Notice Whether They Actually Listen

Do they ask you questions back, about how you live, what your mornings look like, weird little habits that actually matter for design? Or are they just waiting for their turn to talk again? You’ll be dealing with these people for a long stretch of time, so this isn’t a small thing.

Call Past Clients, Don’t Just Read Reviews

Don’t just skim online reviews, actually call two or three past clients if the firm will connect you. People say way more honest things over the phone than they’ll ever type into a public review box.

Ask the Right Questions

Ask what surprised them. Ask what they’d change if they did it all over again. You’ll learn more in fifteen minutes on the phone than in an hour of browsing websites.

Trust Your Gut at the End
